Creating a successful web site is a multidisciplinary skill. Obviously you need to design the web site. Less of obviously you need to manage the web site. Even lower of people's radar, you have to create good content. And finally, most neglected of all, you have to manage the content.
Got the right Rob van Tol?
Names are precious. They are our public identity. So it's bit humbling to find someone else with your name. Humbling, and rather nosey making. We all have our own versions of "the road not taken". But with someone with your name, you feel can have a glimpse into those alternate "yous". Of course it's not true, the other Rob van Tol's aren't me, but what the heck!
So I might have become the Dutch Rob van Tol, who is a leading horticulturist at the Plant Research International, Wageningen-UR, The Netherlands, and a keen runner.
Or I might have become the Canadian the Robert van Tol, who was Web Technologies Manager at Molson Brewery in Canada, and who … spookily … has also had to deal with Opentext's Livelink document management system.
Or I might have become the American Robert van Tol, who stuffed a Rhino at the Colorado Institute of Taxidermy, USA. Well, Lord knows, I think we've all wanted to do that at times (scroll down to Rhino photo).
But, instead, I didn't.
